Ascension

Once he was living and always there,
willing to listen, to give and share.

When out in the world away on my own
I always knew I would see him at home.

What grief and pain he had to bear
were soon accepted as his fair share.

The joy and delight in those his own
Filled him afresh whenever alone.

Then came the day his call was due,
and he ascended Lord to you.

No longer his presence specifically known,
an individual, separate, his own.

Where times before I knew in part,
now we are One, complete in my heart.
