It is great to come together
after being miles apart.
But the real coming together
takes place within our own heart.
It is there midst problems daily
or knowledge of all that may be.
Of difficulties fraught with danger,
in health or illness; you see.
It is love that binds us together
through acceptance, forgiveness too.
In the space we give to each other
and respect for the freedom to choose.
It is not for just our own family
or of those we hold dear.
For we are all part of humanity
our world itself makes that clear.
We all affect one another
by all we think, say or do.
Our actions show others daily
of what we believe to be true.
For all mankind needs shelter,
food, drink, clothing and work.
They too are part of our family
wherever they live on the earth.
It’s in knowing oneself to be valued,
unique; like no-one before.
How each lives and gives is important
especially to those who are poor.
It’s so good to be part of a family,
both our small and larger one too.
May no-one we meet feel excluded
as the love we give flows through.
