An open door is a challenge
through which each of us has to walk,
at first we want to ignore it
hoping it will close as we talk.
but then, as we glimpse the prospect
of how much more we could achieve,
we begin to look and question,
and thoughts of the future will tease.
As each of us walks towards it,
with such hesitant steps at first,
we think we will never make it,
our hearts feel as though they will burst.
but with loving hands to help us
every step that we have to take,
we find with growing confidence
our own decisions we can make.
As our hearts and minds grow lighter,
a peace within us will descend,
with no worries for tomorrow
or what lies just round the bend.
with God and people to help us
we will step through that open door
into a life full of promise,
with love and joy on every floor.
